What to Wear : Sustainable Suiting
In search of high-style, low-impact sustainable summer suiting for all lifestyles with multiple ways to wear.
This one is near and dear to me at the moment. I have watched my style change over the decades from platforms and short shorts and babydoll dresses, to denim and floral blouses, to only dresses, to flats and separates.
A few years ago I bought a linen blazer and felt my look was transformed but also very me. Casual but serious. Sophisticated but relaxed. Since then I have been dreaming of transforming more of my wardrobe to casual suiting that can be worn together or as separates.
After doing some research I found some fantastic sustainable options:
Left to Right: Everlane Oversized Linen Blazer in Bone and Linen High Draped Pant in Cornstalk Chambray, Everlane Linen Oversized Blazer in Canvas Tan/Navy and pant, Mara Hoffman Tatum Hemp Blazer and Marella Pleated Hemp Straight Leg Pant in white, Everlane Oversized Linen Blazer and Linen Way-High Drape Short both in Black, Everlane Linen Double Breasted Blazer and Linen Way-High Drape Pant both in Trench Coat Khaki, Another Tomorrow Summer Jacket in White,
Some readers may think these pieces don’t fit their lifestyle, but below you will see below different ways to wear that may be more realistic for you. Trust me - everyone needs, at minimum, a linen blazer in their wardrobe for spring and summer. If you are working remote or in person, this is obvious. If you are at home with a baby, throw this on over jeans and a t-shirt and go have coffee with a friend while your baby is sleeping next to you in the stroller (or on you) - you will feel more put together even though your life may feel upside down. You have a meeting with literally anyone - a dinner, a doctor, a school, a therapist, or perhaps, you’re running for President of the United States (!) - it is a very easy way to look and feel like you have it together. And everyone deserves to feel that way.
Below are some suggestions for styling 3 looks with one sustainable suit:
Khaki suit:
Wear the Jacket with a tank, denim and nice flip-flops and a market tote to grab and go, or wear the pants with a striped shirt, tote and layer on some rope bracelets. Most of this can be mixed and matched to dress up and down from options within your existing wardrobe.
Black suit: I love the simplicity of this, how sporty casual it can look with some low profile sneakers, denim, a tee and oversized linen tote. Or wear the wraparound ballet flats with the denim or the shorts and dress it up with a lace cami. The silver jewelry can be worn with either look
White suit: I love this for summer, so simple and chic, but you can still get a few outfits out of it. to dress it up for dinner pair the blazer with a neutral colored slip dress and ballet flats and bold gold jewelry, or wear the pants with a tank and open chambray shirt and woven tote. My favorite of the three looks for this suit is the tank and full suit and cuff bracelet, most likely with a nude sandal or ballet flat.
